I am a media studies student doing a television research project based upon the cancellation of 'Enterprise' and the reasons and theories behind it. Star Trek has always had a reputation of a strong fanship upon which studios could rely on for an audience, apparently this fanship didn't take to this new series as they had with Deep Space Nine and Voyager. I would be interested in hearing the points of view of both fans of star trek who liked and/or disliked it. All thoughts would be appreciated thank you.

I can only say how I felt about Enterprise personally.
I don't mind a prequel. However, I didn't enjoy the powers that be, constantly changing the Trek universe. In TNG, we learn that the Ent-D was the first ship to encounter the Borg. Yet in Enterprise, (a prequel), they were the first.
The Star Trek universe is set in stone as far as fans are concerned. Part of the reason we love Star Trek is we have a universe that we believe in. If every new show that comes along changes that universe and the history of it on a whim, people are going to loose interest fast.
For Star Trek as a whole, I think it was a case of saturation. Part of the reason the Original series and TNG were successful was that as a fan, you could devote your entire attention to them. Suddenly, we had up to 5 different series on air.
When it gets to that stage, who can really care anymore?
I'm happy there is no new Trek on TV now. I hope it stays that way for at least 3 years.
Rumours of a prequel movie aside, I hope the fans get rested and recharged.
Cheers

"I'm happy there is no new Trek on TV now."- I would like to disagree, I specially liked the Enterprise in spite of all his faults.Example, the beginning of the serie capitain Archer was a little bit light, but in the 3. serie become harder. The mood of the ENT was maybe darker than the others, and it stood more closer to our world than DS9 or Voyager. Maybe that was the reason why some people didn't like it so much. Sometimes I would like to emphatize in a whole other world. I don't know maybe this is the reason. But I would like sooo much a new TV series from the world of ST. I finded a new forum if you like: www.startrekforum.info, its handy. Regards The Garak fun
