I was just wondering, Why do you like Star Treck: The Original Series? I mean, it has no outstanding special effects, isn't being talked about in any current pop-magazine, and isn't the current "fad", but an old obsession carried on by thousands of fans.
So, why do you like it?
I like it for various reasons,
one. Because of the characters, their companionships, and the wonderful actors who portrayed them.
two. Because of the story lines, the originality, and the fun.
three. Because Star Treck: TOS gives me somewhere safe, sound, and fun to go in my mind, online, and to act out with others. It's the best known among Trekkies, and is the one I can identify the most with.
four. Because I was birthed by a Trekkie, and the Treck-blood runs through my veins (I wouldn't be surprised if there is some Vulcan blood mixed in there, too).

Look what it started! All of these years later we are still talking about it and getting new series and movies. Gene really knew what he was doing. He imagend a perfect world where there is no more war, money is not used, and all of earth works together for a commen goal.

I know, Star Treck changed the world, and for the better. Now, thousands of people have one common interest that they can all relate to perfectly! It's amazing! I wish, somehow, they could make a new ST movie with the origional actors and characters. But, they'd technically have to bring De back from the dead, which I wouldn't mind at all!
I miss De...

I miss De... Yes, making another ST movie with the original characters would be very awesome... But remember, I don't think Shatner nor Nimoy would be as well... limber as they used to be.

TOS is probably my second favourite trek series simply because there is very little graphics in it (starship battles lasting for hours) and the story is told between the clearly defined characters, not by cgi. It also deals with many more life issues than any trek series ever has, which is what trek was for. Roddenberry making a point about the world. Thats what makes TOS unique.

Hmmm... I am not entirely sure why the series is so impactful on the world. Perhaps it gives a way for people to leave there world behind and dream in the fantasy... so hard to put it into words.

To understand, you must first go back and understand what was happening in the world when TOS was first aired. This was the 60's. When the US was in turmoil about race, women's rights, and a great many things, Roddenberry put a black woman on the bridge of the Enterprise. Also, think about what was on TV at the time: basically all shows about cowboys, native americans, and six-shooters. Nothing like Star Trek had ever been on television before. It was this very unusual stage that allowed TOS to confront real-world issues.

basically I believe...in the times of turmoil that have been mentioned.....( Vietnam, racism, The Nuclear Threat) Star Trek offered people..even for an hour the chance to say..."Hey.....We are going to come out of this okay....."
